John 'Jay” Pacha, son of Jeff and Michelle Pacha, of Wichita, Kansas, and grandson of Rosemary Pacha, of Brighton, graduated Saturday, May 11, from Ottawa University in Ottawa, Kansas. Rosemary attended the graduation ceremonies as well as the reception afterward. Jay graduated with a degree in math education and plans to continue his education to get his MBA at Ottawa University, while coaching wrestling. On Sunday, Rosemary and Michelle were treated to a Mother's Day brunch with the family before returning home.
Providing the evening meal at Winifred Fritz's home in Brighton on Mother's Day were her children, Joel and Mary Boatright of Fairfield, Greg and Deb Fritz of Fairfield, and Tony and Lynn Fritz of Brighton. Also present were Mary's daughter, Bridget Hollingsworth, of Fairfield; and Lynn's daughter Elisha, of Swisher. They spent the evening playing cards.
Nelson and Jacklyn Smith held a Mother's Day celebration at their home. Guests included their mothers, Caryl Smith, of Brighton, and Judith Johnson with friend, of Fairfield. They were joined by Jacklyn's friend Kim Shrier, of Iowa City.
Chapter AQ, P.E.O., met May 14 at the home of Cathy Rich. Judy Bloom was her co-hostess. Twelve members answered roll call. The president conducted the business meeting. The program was the exemplification of initiation. The group's next meeting will be held on May 28 at the home of Ruth Stacy. Shirley Schooley will co-host.
Pat Remington, of Brighton, met her daughter Angela Garmoe with Christopher, of Mt. Pleasant, on May 11. They met at the Dollar Tree in Fairfield. They dined at Riverside III before returning home.
Pat Remington and friend Jason, of Brighton, met friends Tammy and Josh, of Crawfordsville, on May 15 in Mt. Pleasant. They dined at Mi Pueblo Real.
Bob Shelangoski attended a wedding reception on May 11. His friends Jason and Alyson Swackhamer held their reception at the Lake Darling Lodge.
Donnie B. Dickinson, of Brighton, was honored for his 74th birthday, which was May 12. An open house was held May 11 at Unc & Neph's in Washington. Approximately 30 friends and relatives gathered to help him celebrate.
Nearly 20 people (from Brighton, Washington, Fairfield, and Wayland) attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting May 16 at the Brighton Church of God. The evening included dinner, praise and worship music, group prayer for special intentions and optional small-group sharing. Friends from the state of Washington also helped via online video to celebrate a recovery success milestone, presenting an attendee with a 4-year sobriety ‘chip.'
The next weekly meeting, open to anyone with any hurt, habit or hangup, will be held Thursday, May 30, at the Brighton Church of God beginning at 6 p.m., with a free meal.
