BURLINGTON - Burlington Civic Music Association's next performance features all-female country group Farewell Angelina with a special appearance by Burlington's own David Kroll. The show is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 11, at Burlington Memorial Auditorium, 200 Front St., Burlington.
Named after a Bob Dylan song, Farewell Angelina's four powerhouse vocalists/songwriters/instrumentalists blend heart-stopping harmonies over blazing double violins and guitars, earning widespread praise. Rolling Stone, which named them The New Artist You Need to Know, described their music as, 'Wickedly smart songwriting delivered with a healthy dash of sass ... deft playing ... into one sonic knockout punch.”
A band of longtime friends, the group's members met while pursuing their dreams in Nashville.
Each had admired one another while building successful solo careers, touring and recording with top artists, and writing songs for some of country music's biggest hitmakers. When they heard their voices together for the first time, they couldn't wait to tour. Major opportunities soon followed including singing the national anthem for Thursday Night Football, The Unbridled Eve Gala for the Kentucky Derby and The Trails West Festival. They've opened shows for Kenny Chesney, Jake Owen and Trace Adkins, to name a few.
Appearing with Farewell Angelina will be Burlington resident David Kroll, who wrote with an original member of the group when he lived in Nashville. Kroll, who moved back to Burlington earlier this year, began performing with local bands in southeast Iowa at 16. A publishing deal lead to his move to Nashville in 2007. Kroll appeared on the second season of Simon Cowell's television show The X - Factor, and he later released his song 'Little Soldiers” nationwide. This past summer, Kroll was part of Raiding the Country Vault, an all-star production in Branson, Missouri, which included Grammy Award winner Billy Yates.
Tickets may be bought on Ticketmaster or through Burlington Civic Music by calling 319-752-0336. Tickets also will be available at Memorial Auditorium the night of the show.
Farwell Angelina also will provide a free hourlong performance for area students the same day as their evening show. The student performance begins at 1 p.m. at Burlington Memorial Auditorium. Adults must be accompanied by a student to attend.
