The Carnegie Historical Museum’s will continue to highlight the farm owned by C. Gene and Joneane L. Parker as its Century Farm of the Month.
This farm has been in the family for 129 years. The Parker farm is located in Des Moines Township. Our scheduled farm owners for November had something come up so C. Gene and Joneane L. Parker will continue their display for a second month through November 2023.
The family first purchased this farm on February 23, 1894, with 85 acres and is presently 254 acres in total.

This is the Nineteenth-month that the Carnegie Historical Museum has been highlighting the farms in Jefferson County which have been recognized by the Iowa Farm Bureau as being in the same family for 100 years plus. It is our plan to carry this forward in 2023 and through 2024, and recognize those farms which have received this Heritage or Century Farm status at the state level.
The Fairfield First Friday on November 3, 2023, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a showing of the Fair Field Productions’ documentary “A Place to Grow,” highlighting the history of farming in our Jefferson County. Please take time to come and learn about the history of these early farms and what they mean to Jefferson County, Iowa.
