Several fourth- and fifth-grade youth spent Monday at Catch the Wind day camp hosted by Washington County Extension. At this science camp, students gathered to learn and experiment ways to capture the wind and to think as mechanical engineers.
Instructor Amy Green led the Engineering is Elementary curriculum and was impressed and entertained with the participants? creativity. ?After giving a challenge, it was fun to watch them design experiments, test them, collect data and then be challenged to go improve it. They were determined to beat records.?
The Catch the Wind day camp is similar to other camps which will be offered this summer for youth kindergarten to fifth grade. For more information on the camp or other opportunities for youth, contact the Washington County Extension Office at 319-653-4811.
