More than 40 people - from Brighton, Wayland, Olds, and Washington, including three newcomers - met for Celebrate Recovery Brighton at the Brighton Community Church Feb. 11. The evening included praise and worship music, and the presentation of ‘chips' to mark recovery beginnings and successes, including five chips awarded for completion of individualized 'Step Study” work, 18-month and 21-year sobriety chips, and others.
The evening's lesson was on the action people can take to get past the barriers of pride, fear, guilt, worry and doubt that keep them stuck in the cycle of failure.
There was also an opportunity for gender-specific optional individual sharing including two women's sharing groups, one for those struggling with chemical dependencies, and one for all other hurts, habits or hangups. In addition, childcare was provided for nine children.
The evening began with a shared meal. Contributions for the next meal can be made by contacting Sharon at smwagner123@gmail.com.
The next weekly Celebrate Recovery meeting will be held on Thursday, Feb. 18 at the Brighton Community Church beginning at 6 p.m.
