‘Celebration of Art & Exhibiting Artists’ set Sunday
N/A
Mar. 19, 2019 11:36 am
Fairfield Art Association will host its 'Celebration of Art & Exhibiting Artists” from 2-4 p.m. Sunday in the Main Gallery and the Cambridge Room at the Fairfield Arts & Convention Center.
The event is for artists, Fairfield Art Association members and anyone interested in art activities.
A variety of desserts and beverage will be served while guests view the current FAA membership exhibit of 28 area artists' work. Then, at 3 p.m., judge David Kraemer will present awards to four artists for outstanding pieces in the exhibit. These are cash awards made possible this year by a grant from the Fairfield Cultural Alliance. After announcements, Kraemer will critique the entire show.
'The critique is a favorite part for artists and those present,” said Suzan Kessel, artist and Fairfield Art Association volunteer director. 'It is a learning experience that helps everyone develop an eye for what makes a piece of art successfully work, or what could improve it visually.”
The 28 area artists taking the canvas challenge for this year's membership exhibit include: from Fairfield Laura Weinberg, Elaine Duncan, Vicki Gautherat, Joyce Schindler, Kathryn Daller, John Preston, Jim DeArmon, Deb DeArmon, Care Connet, Susan Noll Thicke, Ann Bosold, Rolf Erickson, Mark Shafer, Cynthia Sterling, Susan Bomzer, Pam Lander, Ingrid Saterstrom, David Pattison and Suzan Bates Kessel. Those from out of town are: Annette Scieszinski from Albia; Kathleen Almelien and JoAnne Worley from Washington, Iowa; Debbie Finney from Keosauqua; Jessica Kirby and Carlene Atwater from Fort Madison; Gin Lammert and Deb Baughman from Pulaski; and Cathryn Layer from New London. All art entries are for sale, and this membership exhibit will conclude Sunday when artists take their pieces home.
Announcements made by the Fairfield Art Association Board of Directors include a new 'Artists' Traveling Exhibit” opportunity that will put local artists on the Iowa map. Interested artists will learn how they can be considered and get information first hand.
'Pipe Dreams” the 11th annual summer art installation, will be presented, complete with guidelines and the one component needed to participate available this day. Only 22 spaces are available in the downtown garden nodes for the pipe creations to be displayed, so individuals or groups interested should sign up to participate as soon as they can. 'With RAGBRAI coming to town this summer, we expect some ‘steampunk' art designs will be added to intrigue those overnight guests and peak their interest in our silent auction of the ‘Pipes,' said Kessel.
