Over 30 people from Brighton, Wayland, Washington and Fairfield, including 5 newcomers, attended a Celebrate Recovery meeting Dec. 19, at the Brighton Church of God. The evening included dinner, praise and worship Christmas music, optional small group sharing, a special celebration of the birthday of Jesus and an introductory session for the newcomers. In addition, a special token, called a coin, was presented to someone celebrating twenty years of sobriety.
A special thanks to Sharon Wagner for providing the pictured birthday cake and to Darren Brown at the Lighthouse Homeless Shelter for sharing resources from its food pantry for the meal. CR is also very grateful to an anonymous couple for donating gifts to the children who come with their parents to Celebrate Recovery. The leader of Celebration Place (the companion program for children ages 5-13), Brenda Miles, also read the Christmas story and met with the kids for holiday activities.
The next weekly Celebrate Recovery/Celebration Place meeting, open to anyone with any hurt, habit, or hangup and their children ages 5-13, will be Thursday, Dec. 26, at the Brighton Church of God. It will begin at 6 p.m. with a free meal. Free child care is available for children under 5.
