PELLA ? Central College senior Griffin Hammel, a native of Fairfield, competed in the Region V Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival the week of Jan. 20 in Lincoln, Neb.
KCACTF is an annual festival dedicated to celebrate and improve the quality of collegiate theatre, while providing professional opportunities. The Region V festival drew 1,525 students from 81 colleges and universities.
Hammel was one of 316 nominees for the Irene Ryan Acting Scholarship. The scholarship provides recognition, honor and financial assistance to outstanding student performers who wish to pursue further education.
Hammel will be in Central?s theater performance of ?The Ice Fishing Play? by Kevin Kling at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 26 through March 1 at the Kruidenier Center on Central?s campus.
?The Ice Fishing Play? introduces a man in an icehouse on a frozen lake who just wants to fish for the proverbial big catch in peace and quiet.
Cost for general admission tickets is $6. Student and senior citizen tickets are $3. Admission is free with a Central ID. Tickets are available at the Maytag Box Office or at the door on nights of the performances.

IOWA WESLEYAN COLLEGE
MT. PLEASANT ? Several area students have earned recognition on the Iowa Wesleyan College 2013 fall dean?s list.
From Fairfield: Christine Copeland, Skylar Gray, Alexandrea Messer, Denise Venteicher and Chelsey Wagner;
From Lockridge: Paula Kennerson; and
From Keosauqua: Kylie Harlan.
To qualify for the dean?s list, a student must be classified as a degree candidate and have attained a grade-point average for the term of 3.50 or better on a 4.00 scale, with 12 credit hours or more and no incomplete grades at the time the list is declared.
EASTERN KENTUCKY UNIVERSITY
RICHMOND, Ky. ? Sherry Lyn Sievers of Richland graduated at the conclusion of the fall 2013 semester at Eastern Kentucky University.
Sievers graduated with a master?s degree in safety/security/emergency management. She was recognized at commencement ceremonies Dec. 14.
