Central Park Community Center donating wheelchairs
N/A
Apr. 2, 2019 12:12 pm
The Central Park Community Center announced today they are donating wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches and other medical supplies to Mission: Mobility. Barb Nelson said the equipment had been donated over the years to the center, but was not being utilized. She stated the group decided to donate the equipment where it would be put to good use.
Rick Fulton of Mission: Mobility says these items will go to Guatemala where they have a shop that refurbishes the equipment. Many of the technicians in the shop are in wheelchairs themselves.
Fulton went on to say Mission: Mobility was founded in 2012, following a mission trip he went on with John and Jean Mitchell from Wayland. The Mitchells own and manage MD Orthopedics in Wayland. They also operate a 501(c) (3) nonprofit called On His Path (OHP) which benefits causes around the world. Their website is www.onhispath.com
On that mission trip in 2011, they worked with Bethel Ministries International. Bethel hosts around 40 mission teams per year. Each team helps the needy in Guatemala while on mission trips. Over the course of a year they build around 70 houses for those in great need, provide food and clothing distributions, establish school sponsorship and provide wheelchairs to the disabled. The wheelchair facet of the ministry was the original beginning of the Mission: Mobility ministry. The cornerstone of all Bethel's efforts is to share the Gospel!
To help them fill their ever-growing need for wheelchairs they formed Mission Mobility as a collection group here in the US. They operate as a wing of On His Path. Originally it was a handful of volunteers in Iowa gathering used wheelchairs, they formed Mission Mobility as a collection group in the U.S. They operate as a wing of OHP. Originally it was a handful of volunteers in Iowa gathering used wheelchairs, canes, crutches and vsnrd gtom seven different states. They have also shipped thousands of boxes of donated clothing, shoes, wheelchair parts, medical supplies, tolls and dehydrated Take Away Hunger meals for the ministry.
Mission: Mobility and On His Path are 100 percent volunteer based. 100 percent of a monetary donation goes to the Mission. For additional informal visit ww.mi9ssionmobility.org of call Rick Fulton at 319-461-6260.
