Shortly after the announcement of the closure of Iowa Wesleyan University in late March of 2023, it was agreed that the school archives located on the second floor of the Chadwick Library should remain in Mount Pleasant.
The Henry County Heritage Trust, located in the former Saunders School building on Madison Street, was selected to be the new home for the majority of the college's collection. Over the last three months the team at the Heritage Trust worked efficiently to remodel a room, add climate control, set up shelving, and begin the process of rehousing the archives into its new home.
The collection includes thousands of documents, such as class histories and alumni records, photographs from all eras of the school, trophies and accolades from sports teams over the years, scrapbooks ... and even a frog band.
This collection of musical amphibians came from Cole's Pond over a century ago. It was the sounds of the frogs that inspired the naming of the school yearbook and their sports mascot, the Croaker. The archives are open to the public by appointment. The museum is open on Saturdays from May to October or by appointment.
