The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will be holding auditions for new singers on Thursday, Aug. 23, for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
In towns both large and small across the country, choral groups regularly present thousands of concerts annually. While audiences and singers alike have long understood the intrinsic value of singing together, recent research shows that participation in choirs cultivates many positive attributes in singers, which in turn, benefits their audiences and communities.
An estimated 42.6 million people in the U.S. sing in more than 270,000 choirs today. The data indicates that singing in a choir is a thriving and growing form of artistic expression in America, providing great musical performances and advancing many of the positive qualities associated with success in life.
Research clearly demonstrates the positive impact of musical skills on individual development, including measures of intelligence, creativity, concentration, self-confidence, emotional sensitivity, social skills, team work, self-discipline and relaxation.
Choral singing also calms the heart and boosts endorphin levels and improves lung function. Choral singers are more likely to be generous by volunteering in their communities, contributing money to philanthropic causes and taking on leadership roles.
The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa provides an enjoyable, rewarding, and educational musical experience for community members who want to thrive and delight in the benefits of singing.
