The Chamber Singers of Southeast Iowa will present their annual holiday concert, ‘Season of Light,” on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Golden Magnolia Sanctuary, 200 South Main Street in Fairfield — just one short block from the Fairfield Square.
This year’s program is designed to illuminate the season and uplift the spirit, presenting holiday texts and traditions in fresh, newly created, contemporary musical styles. The program weaves together stories and emotions — comforting holiday memories and the excitement and anticipation of ever-evolving seasonal celebrations — connecting the forever old and forever new.
The songs include a variety of vocal genres, with influences of gospel, vocal jazz, ragas, mystical traditions, medieval harmonies, and dynamic modern rhythms. The program also features new works by several popular contemporary composers. The concert builds to a joyful carol sing-along with the audience.
Guest instrumentalists will complement the choral works with solo piano pieces, flute and viola da gamba duets, and accompaniment to some of the songs.
“In this year’s program, we wanted to showcase how seasonal musical traditions enrich and nourish our lives as they evolve,” says Elaine Reding, music director of the Chamber Singers. “We want to give our audiences the experience of connecting to beautiful new holiday offerings in an uplifting setting of musical creativity. We’re looking forward to sharing these innovative choral works with everyone.”
Come and enjoy a wonderful musical evening with the Chamber Singers on Saturday and Sunday, Dec. 13 and 14, at 7:30 p.m. at the Golden Magnolia Sanctuary. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, call 641-472-1539.
