Chapter NZ P.E.O. Sisterhood minutes

Chapter NZ of the P.E.O. Sisterhood met for their regular meeting on Monday, May 20, at the Van Allen House. Before the business meeting, Pat White, a member of the board of Henry County Heritage Trust, presented the program 'The Remarkable Van Allens of Mt. Pleasant.”
President Jean Thomson presided at the business meeting with 26 members present. Reports were given by officers.
Jan Lange, vice president, announced that the next meeting will be held on Monday, June 10, at Kay Denning's home with Betty Lowe, Amy Lowe, Ally Lowe and Mary Beth Young serving as co-hostesses. The program will be 'Sharing the Story of Iowa State Convention,” which will be held in Des Moines on June 1 and 2, by delegate Jan Lange.
B&B chairman Joyce Dennison reported 19 lunches served this past month. The two upcoming lunches are June 6 and June 19. Members are to contact Dennison if they are able to contribute.
Karen Brimhall, Henry County Sesquicentennial committee member, shared that the four Henry County P.E.O. chapters will be participating in the fundraiser 'Pies in the Park.” Members will serve a slice of pie and scoop of ice cream for a free-will offering during the Community Band Concerts on Thursday evenings at 6:45 p.m. in Central Park.
The concert dates for 'Pies in the Park” are June 13, June 20, June 27, and July 11. Members and guests are encouraged to participate.
Volunteers for the tours for the fall convention in Mt. Pleasant are as follows: docent training on June 17 and July 9 at 9 a.m.; bus tour training on June 20 at 10:30 a.m. and July 9 at 5 p.m.; and P.E.O. Memorial Building and Stile training on June 11 at 9 a.m. and June 20 at 1 p.m.
A comprehensive walk-through for all docents and guides will be Aug. 1, at 5 p.m., Brimhall said.
At the end of the meeting, self-guided tours were taken after refreshments of lemonade and cookies were served.
