Fairfield?s Anatta Charoenkul and Dayna Price each captured a championship on Saturday at the Fort Madison Girls Tennis Invitational.

Charoenkul, a sophomore, won her title in No. 1 singles. Price, a senior, earned her crown in No. 2 singles.

?I was very glad that they both took first place,? said Trojan head coach Heidi Grunwald. ?I was not surprised. Anatta placed second in state singles last year and she is able to move that ball where she wants to and knows the proper time to hit the shot that her opponent returns.

?Dayna has been working hard in practice and hitting well on Saturday helped her.?

On Saturday, Price defeated West Burlington-Notre Dame?s Breanna Erickson in Round 2, 8-2. In her title contest, Price beat Fort Madison?s Hope Gray 8-5.

?Dayna played her game on Saturday,? Grunwald said. ?She was hitting well and moving her feet.?

Charoenkul whipped all foes. She defeated Keokuk?s Maddie Miller 8-0, Kennedy Rheinschmidt (WBND) 8-0, and won her title contest 8-1 over Fort Madison?s Katie Larson.

?Anatta works hard in practice and outside of practice to improve her game,? Grunwald said. ?Anatta has the potential to return to state and hopefully place first this year ? this is a goal of hers.?

On Monday, Charoenkul, Price and their teammates dominated visiting Davis County, 8-1.

Charoenkul won her singles match over Jordyn Thompson 8-1. Price defeated Kali Rudd 8-2.

Also winning singles matches for Fairfield were Cami Schaefer (8-2), Hermela Gebremariam (8-1), Anna Beasley (8-1) and Ashley Pool (8-0).

In doubles, Price-Schaefer won 8-1 and Beasley-Pool won 8-0.

?My top six players (Charoenkul, Price, Schaefer, Gebremariam, Beasley and Pool) are doing well so far,? Grunwald said. ?My expectations are for everyone to work hard and do the best they can. They should also enjoy the game of tennis.

?We should have a strong team and we want to be on top of the conference standings.?

JV?Against Davis County on Monday, winning singles matches for Fairfield were Allison Krumboltz, Abbey Gridley, Peyton Manley, Lynsey Finney, Lucia Van Dijk and Natalie Brader. Winning doubles matches for the Trojans were Krumboltz-Gridley, Manley-Finney, Sarah Davisson-Amanda Raines (FF) and Brader-Devika Pharasi.
