Chilcote Questers meet at Arts Domestique

President Kathleen Almelien opened the February meeting of the Chilcote Questers No. 1092 by calling roll with 9 present and 4 absent. Co-hostess was Pat Cody. The meeting was at Arts Domestique in Washington, courtesy of Almelien.
Roll call responses related to “Snow Day Memories.” Minutes of the December meeting were read by Secretary Virginia McCurdy. Wendy Langan moved approval with a second by Phyllis Eisele and the minutes were approved as read. The treasurer’s report was given by Mary Levy and reflected a solid balance.
Discussion of the Yearly dues increase occurred. It was agreed it was a hefty raise, but was overlong in happening. Jacque Ross moved not to disband because of the raise, discussion re-occurred. Joanne Worley seconded the motion and it was approved. Levy was appointed to draft a letter indicating our dismay.
Almelien also passed a notice of past State President Carol Tinkey’s antique auction, which is online and contains several significant collections. She also announced a favorable reception to the December window at the Public Library, which Chilcote members had arranged.
Levy passed the sign-up sheet for the 2023-24 programs. Ross announced surgery Feb. 6 and asked for healing thoughts. The International ballot for officer elections was read. Levy moved, second Cody to unanimously approve the slate. Motion carried. The State Convention will be April 21-22 in Cedar Falls. April 2 will be a glass program at the Brunnier Gallery, featuring Quester donated glass. The program begins at 2 p.m.
Eisele agreed to plan the summer trip this year.
The March 2 meeting is being revised to be held at Arts Domestique. McCurdy will give a program on postcards featuring Washington through the years, plus other areas. Langan will be co-hostess.
A motion to adjourn was made by Worley and seconded by Cody. Motion carried.
Almelien gave the program on Norwegian baskets used for transporting foodstuffs. She had several examples, all featuring pyrography (Wood Burning). The Norwegian baskets were quite elaborate. The boxes were popular in the 1880’s thru 1910 Victorian era. Most USA boxes were used to house hankies, collars, papers, etc.
