The Chilcote Questers No. 1092 Club from Washington met May 4 before taking the summer off. Marj Lins was hostess with Pat Fritz as co-hostess. Lins also gave the program on dolls, following the taking of a picture of the group at Conger House to use in our program, and was followed by the usual business meeting.
The State Quester group is seeking nominations for a Quester of the Year. Our group is nominating Phyllis Eisele, copy and photo attached, who is a charter member of #1092.
July 10, The Chilcote group presented a series of antique talks at the Public Library, to draw attention to the antique-related books the group has donated to the library for use by the public. Kathleen Almelien spoke about Pyrography, wood burning, and showed several samples of the items. Lins then talked on Christmas Pins, and showed her collection. Karen Chabal rounded out the series by showing and telling about storage tins. The antique books are shelved in 3 sets of wooden shelves, located on the west wall of the 2nd floor room housing the grand piano and quiet reading area.
A second series of talks will be given Nov. 10 at 2:00 p.m. by Virginia McCurdy. She will display and talk of Washington memorabilia, pressed glass, and lace.
Lins talk in May discussed early dolls found in Egypt, Greece and Rome; German-produced Porcelain and Bisque dolls, as well as kid leather trims; the 20’s and 30’s produced Celluloid and Kewpie dolls. Barbie dolls were introduced in 19959 by Mattel and were followed by Ken, Skipper, Stacy, Chelsea and Midge dolls. All, of course, are still highly popular and collectible. The 1980’s introduced Cabbage Patch dolls and since then the American Girl doll has acquired a following.
The group re-convened Sept. 7 at Arts Domestique. Pat Cody gave the program on Belleek Pottery and was also co-hostess. The business meeting was conducted by President Almelien. The October meeting will be at Eisele’s home with Wendy Langan as co-hostess and Fritz talking about Aunt Jemima artifacts.
