Chilicote Questers meeting minutes

The meeting was called to order by President Mary Levy with seven in attendance. Roll call was taken and the minutes of the previous meeting read and approved. A bill was presented for the chapter yearbook and was approved for payment.
The Dec. 3 Terrace Hill Tea may be attended at either 9 a.m. or 1 p.m. The treasurer is to send one check for all attending. Any members wanting to attend should let Jackie know by Nov. 20.
Forty-plus books have been added to the Quester Antique bookshelves on the second floor of the library. At the February meeting members will discuss additional book topics they would like to see added to the antiques section. The book plate committee is developing the Chilcote Quester bookplate for the library to keep and insert in all books the club donates.
Barb Lukavskys' granddaughter received a Quester 4-H award for her refinishing project at the State Fair and is specifying Washington County Historic Preservation as the recipient of her $100 award. That money will be used toward Walnut School projects, because of the Lukavsky's ties to that school.
Dec. 3 at 9 a.m., the group will meet at the library to decorate the shelves with antique Santas, feather trees and ornaments. Removal will be in early January. The December meeting is at Kathleen Almelien's on Dec. 6 with the annual Christmas auction as the program.
Virginia McCurdy gave the program regarding Farming in the 1920s & 30s and focusing on the Farm Riots that occurred in Iowa in 1933. Her great-uncle was a leader of one of the farm revolt groups and was arrested at the Shields barn in rural Denison. Many issues leading to those riots occurred during the 1920s. Martial law was called in during the riots. McCurdy's grandfather, William Kendall Dobler, had the chore of bailing his brother-in-law Frank North out of jail after the riot.
A delicious apple cake was served by Pat Fritz before the meeting adjourned.
