Next meeting for Christian outreach center set
A joint undertaking between local congregations to open a unified Christian outreach center in downtown Fairfield continues to gain momentum, with the next meeting at 3 p.m. July 10 at Word of Life Lutheran Church.
The purpose of the outreach center, in addition to it serving as an information hub, would be to supply meals to residents who cannot afford them. A governing board that would allow the outreach center to file as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization is close to being established.
All area Christian denominations are invited to be a part of the venture.

Ice cream sundae fundraiser tonight
The Missions and Service Committee of the First United Methodist Church is planning an ice cream sundae fundraiser for Heifer International at Revelations during the art walk Friday.
Kemps, in a coordinated effort with Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store, is donating 24 gallons of Kemps ice cream. Wal-Mart is donating the toppings, bowls and spoons.
Heifer International was formed as an organization dedicated to ending hunger by providing families with livestock and training so they could feed themselves. Heifer provides more than 25 kinds of livestock, as well as trees, seeds and training in environmentally sound agriculture, so families have a reliable source of food and income.
