First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) is holding its fifth Kids Against Hunger food packing event on Feb. 26.
Anyone, of any age, is welcome to participate in packaging meals.
?The organization is called Kids Against Hunger, but everyone is invited to join in this time of work, fun and fellowship,? said Don Henderson, a church member. ?We?ve had families come with children 6 years old and others in their 90s help pack.?
Pizza and snacks will be available at noon and packing begins at 1 p.m. Packing sessions last approximately two hours. The day?s goal is to package 10,000 meals.
Kids Against Hunger is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit, food relief organization, incorporated in 1999.
Kids Against Hunger is not affiliated with or restricted to a particular religious group and does not discriminate on any basis when distributing its meals, according to information at its website www.kidsagainsthunger.com.
The organization?s approach to achieving its goal includes packaging a highly nutritious, vitamin-fortified soy-rice casserole by volunteers at numerous locations within the U.S. and Canada, and distributing those meals to starving children and their families in more than 60 countries and across the U.S. through partnerships with humanitarian organizations worldwide.
In 2010, volunteers at Kids Against Hunger?s food packaging centers packaged more than 40 million meals for children and their families around the world and across America.
First Christian Church has held four packing sessions since May 2010 and packaged 34,662 meals to date. The church has its own packaging equipment and is designated an official ?wing unit? of southeast Iowa. Brighton is the nearest area headquarters and warehouse.
Tax-deductible donations also may be sent to Kids Against Hunger Liberty Ministries, 3244 160th St., Brighton 52540.
