Church plans open house

Fairfield?s First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) invites everyone to ?A New Beginning? open house featuring tours, refreshments and fellowship from 2-4 p.m. Sunday.

The community also is welcome to attend Sunday worship at 10:45 a.m., with the Rev. Art Sathoff, pastor.

A gospel quartet, Woven Hearts, featuring Beth Gravett Withrow, formerly of the Denny Hilton Show at the Lake of the Ozarks, Mo., will perform at 2:15 p.m. and 3:15 p.m. Other members of Woven Hearts are Randy Withrow, Karla Withrow Deahl and Deanna Withrow Brinegar. The quartet will sing contemporary Christian and southern gospel music,

A new beginning refers to events in the past year for this congregation. It sold its historical church building at Third Street and West Burlington Avenue and purchased a building along Highway 1 south, across from the Jefferson County Health Center.

Renovations on the former tavern/grocery store/Christian school/disco began in April. Foam insulation and a new acoustical ceiling were installed as well as energy-efficient lighting. New carpeting and flooring were laid.

Art Sathoff, a licensed minister with First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was called, and accepted, to be pastor in June.

A steeple was added to the roofline, identifying the building more distinctly as a church.
