A few Fairfield Christian churches are holding a meeting from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Sunday at Word of Life Lutheran Church to discuss opening a unified Christian outreach center in downtown Fairfield.
The purpose of the center, in addition to it serving as an information center, would be to supply meals for those who cannot afford them. It would provide two meals each day and coffee in the mornings, said Jamie Strickler, pastor of Word of Life Lutheran Church.
Strickler said he would like the center to be located downtown to fill an empty storefront and cultivate a Christian presence there.
?We don?t have a unified Christian presence in this town, nor downtown,? said Strickler. ?Our hope is that all Christians can gather downtown.?
Strickler anticipates the center will open in the next six months to one year.
Churches currently signed up for involvement are New Life Community Church and Word of Life. Strickler added he has gotten positive responses from other churches, including Fairfield Friends and First United Methodist churches, and that all Christian denominations are invited to be a part of the joint undertaking.
For information about the meeting, contact Strickler at (919) 4799.
