Clara Schmitz awarded Adams Family 4-H Scholarship

Clara Schmitz, from Washington County, was awarded the Adams Family (in honor of Alice Heinrichs and Nichole Heinrichs) 4-H Scholarship through the Iowa 4-H Foundation this spring.

The Iowa 4-H Foundation has announced the recipients of over 90 Iowa 4-H scholarships valued at more than $100,000. Over 400 applications were submitted and scholarships have been awarded to recipients from 54 counties across the state of Iowa with a wide variety of 4-H experiences.

From agriculture project areas and serving as a Junior 4-H Camp Counselor, 4-H has provided Schmitz with many big and rewarding adventures. The leadership experiences Schmitz participated in include County Council and sheep mentorship program. She always enjoyed talking to 4th grade classes about joining 4-H during National 4-H Week. Schmitz has decided to pursue a degree in agronomy and crop sciences at Iowa State University.

Schmitz says, 'My goals really rely on my confidence, and without confidence I will never be able to achieve them. I think 4-H helped me develop the leadership skills, communication skills and passion I need to be confident in myself and ideas. Overall 4-H has been impactful on my future goals and aspirations.”

'These scholarships honor and reward hard work and dedication. We are thankful for the many scholarship donors who fund these important opportunities for Iowa 4-H'ers.”

The Adams Scholarship, provided by Don and Kathy Adams in honor of Alice Heinrichs and Nichole Heinrichs, is for Iowa 4-H alumni, currently attending Iowa State University as an upperclassman pursuing a degree in an agriculture or engineering and has earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
