Clover Kids bucket bottle
Aug. 1, 2021 5:47 pm
Washington County Clover Kid third-graders had their time in the show ring on July 21. New this year, Washington County 4-H Clover Kids had the opportunity to learn more about the bucket bottle calf project through a special mentoring program, which then gives them their very own County Fair Bucket Bottle Class.
Interested third grade Clover Kids were paired with older 4-H sheep project members. The Clover Kids and mentors met two to three times before the Washington County Fair. These meetings allowed the 4-H mentor to teach the Clover Kid all about bottle calves, including how to feed, walk and wash them. The pre-fair meetings allowed participants time to plan their costume entry.
During the Washington County Fair bucket bottle calf show, the Clover Kids had the opportunity to show one of their mentor’s bucket bottle calves. The trio — Clover Kid, 4-H member, and calf — were dressed in coordinating costumes; the audience participated by cheering for their favorite team.
Five Clover Kids participated, including: Carson Williams, Elena Koch, Madison Gent, Sydney Williams, and Adlei Marek.
4-H mentors included: Tate Bombei, Taylor Bartholomew, Kaylee Shirkey, Brynn Northup and Emma Stalder.
Adlei Marek, member of the Washington Clover Kids club, and her 4-H mentor, Emma Stalder were the crowd’s choice for best costume. Marek is the daughter of Cody and Tammy Marek, and Stalder is the daughter of Matt and Betsy Stalder. (Katie Palmer)
