CLOVER KIDS
The Jefferson County Fairfield 4-H Clover Kids met 5:15-6:15 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.
Twenty-seven members made cloth pumpkins out of fall colored fabric, made Halloween mobiles using paper plates, drew happy, goofy, sad and smiley pumpkin faces.

CLOVER KIDS
The Jefferson County Fairfield 4-H Clover Kids met 5:15-6:15 p.m. Thursday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.
Twenty-seven members made cloth pumpkins out of fall colored fabric, made Halloween mobiles using paper plates, drew happy, goofy, sad and smiley pumpkin faces.
Leland and Shirley Stanley spoke to the group about pumpkins: sizes, nutrition, planting, caring and watching them grow. They showed pictures of the big pumpkins on display on the Agriculture Building lawn at the Iowa State Fair that weighed more than 1,000 pounds. Each member received pumpkin seeds to plant in the spring.
For snacks, members made spider cookies and had lemonade to drink.
Helping with the evening activities were Juanita Bray, Karen Crossland, Phyllis Harris, Eileen and Heather Pickard, Sherri and Sophia Mineart, John Sandbothe, Jason Steele, Leland and Shirley Stanley.
Clover Kids and their parents are invited to the 4-H Trunk or Treat Night, from 4-7 p.m. Oct. 28 at Jefferson County Fairgrounds.
The next meeting will be from 5:15-6:15 p.m. Nov. 8 in the Jefferson County Fairgrounds Activity Building.

PENN WORKERS 4-H CLUB
The Penn Workers 4-H Club met at 7 p.m. Thursday for its first meeting of the year.
Roll call was answered by what new project members plan to have for 2013.
Kelly Lacey read the October newsletter.
A motion was made by Kelly Lacey that the $100 received for grape vine wreaths pay 4-H dues for the first 10 Penn Workers members who enroll for the 2012-13 year before Nov. 1. Jacob Morgan seconded.
Kelly Lacey motioned to amend all dates and activities for October, November and December. Sophie Stratton seconded the motion.
The club voted to go to Johnny Clock Museum Nov. 2 in Coal Town. They will meet at 2 p.m., then go to Pizza Ranch for pizza and pop.
New officers were elected for the 2012-13 year: Kelly Lacey is president; Shelby Heston is vice president; Jade Knapp is secretary; Jacob Morgan is treasurer; Sophie Stratton is historian; Tyler Heston is photographer; Ryan Pate is reporter.
Sophie Stratton led the 4-H pledge to close the meeting.
The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office.

LOW VISION
Members of the Low Vision group met Oct. 10 for their monthly meeting at the United Methodist Church.
Keevin Koch, Fairfield Hy-Vee Food and Drug Store produce manager, provided the program about values of fresh fruit and vegetables in the diet. He explained which ones were especially good for the eyes.
Anyone with low vision and eye problems is invited to join the group, which meets at 10 a.m. the second Wednesday of each month at the church.

JEFFERSON COUNTY FARM BUREAU WOMEN
The Jefferson County Farm Bureau Women met for a noon luncheon recently at the Pizza Ranch.
Shirley Stanley opened the meeting with a quote from Helen Keller?s ?Best Things in the World.?
Ten members and two guests were present. Roll call was answered to ?Agriculture of Canada.? Minutes of the September meeting were read and approved, with the correction that information concerning the scholarship for seniors is available at the Jefferson County Farm Bureau office, not the Jefferson County ISU Extension Office.
The group congratulated Leland and Shirley Stanley for their 52nd wedding anniversary.
After the business meeting, the group went to Jefferson County Park to meet with park host Ron Meyers. He talked about the varied features of the park system and the many programs offered by the naturalist. He took the group on a ride in the park?s electric cart.
The next meeting will be Nov. 6 at SunnyBrook Care Center. Wilma Lewis Whitham will be hostess.

VFW LADIES AUXILARY
The Ladies Auxiliary to Dimmitt-Vorhies Post 2271 met Oct. 8 at the post home, with seven members present.
Poppy Days were discussed. Everyone who donated their time and money to make the Poppy Days such a success was thanked.
The charter was draped for Victorine Townsend, who died Sept. 12.
Dated items will be delivered to the VA hospital in Iowa City.
National President Leanne Lemley was in Iowa Thursday through Sunday.
The Rescare dance was Oct. 10. Cookies and punch, along with music, was provided.
The next meeting will be Nov. 12 at the post home.
