The theme for the annual Kiwanis Kids? Day on Sept. 15 will be ?Just Imagine.?
Parade organizer and Kiwanian Don Kremer said all businesses are welcome to join in the parade and enter a float using the theme. No float registration is necessary.
Kremer reminds parade participants candy and other items cannot be thrown to spectators.
The parade starts at 10 a.m. from the Fairfield High School. Prizes will be announced from the Cental Park bandstand immediately following the parade. Prizes range from $25 to $100.
Also after the parade, events for kids, like face painting, a petting zoo, a pedal-tractor pull and the Backyard Circus, are planned in the park.
Kiwanis Kids? Day also includes the big pancake tent on the east side of the square. Pancakes, sausage, and a drink will be served from 6 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Fairfield Kiwanis Club members will be selling tickets in advance. A books of 10 tickets is $50; individual tickets are $5.50 for adults; two children can use one adult ticket. Tickets purchased at the pancake tent entrance will be $6 per adult and $3 per child.
Money raised at the pancake tent helps support a variety of community projects underwritten by Fairfield Kiwanis and supported by its members. Two of the newest contributions are funds to help with re-building the Jefferson County Park swinging bridge and funds for scholarships for diabetic children to attend Camp Hertko Hollow.
In the past 37 years, Kiwanis has distributed more than $230,000 for various projects within the community and in neighboring areas. Some of the projects have been playground equipment for city parks, Partners for Play playground, funds for the downtown Christmas decorations, Fairfield Middle School basketball court, Fairfield High School after-prom party, scholarships for FHS graduates, Jefferson County Relay for Life and Fairfield Public Library.
Other projects given finances include: FHS band uniforms, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sponsoring a Little League team and the Jefferson County Hospital helipad.
