The Kiwanis AM?ers will end their fiscal year Sept. 30, with record revenues. In the past year, the club received approximately $22,000 from fundraising to support 20 local community projects. Some of the community projects include Secret Santa, Relay for Life, Kids Against Hunger, the Kiwanis Middle School Builders Club, Kirkwood Scholarships, the Sunset Park annual Easter Egg Hunt with Hy Vee, the University of Iowa Pediatrics Chaplain Fund, Camp Invention, the annual August Blood Drive, the University of Iowa Foundation, School Supplies, Main Street, the Dance Marathon, Show Choir, the Hugh O?Brian Youth Leadership Foundation, and other worthy causes.
The club?s main focus is on youth development. The main fundraisers were the annual Spaghetti Dinner held at the high school in February and the annual Golf Scramble held at the Washington Golf Course in July. In addition, the club helped support the Middle School Builders Club when they raised $3,564 for a Make A Wish cause known as Kids for Wish Kids. Club officers this past year were Linda Wenger, president; Curt Mayer, president-elect; Pat Smith, secretary; and Ted Drain, treasurer, The club consists of 34 member who meet every Friday morning at 6:30 a.m. on the third-floor Community Y Meeting Room. Guests are always welcome.
