The October meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post 29 met Oct. 11, at the Washington County Ambulance Barn with six members attending. The October meeting of the American Legion Auxiliary Leon Beatty Post 29 met Oct. 11, at the Washington County Ambulance Barn with six members attending. President Sue Gilmere called the meeting to order at 7 p.m. The prayer was given by Dixie Young, and the Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the Preamble for God and Country was said by everyone present. Sue reported on the September minutes, which were approved with no additions or corrections. Dixie Conrad gave the treasure?s report, which was approved.
It was reported that Dixie Young and Sue had gone to a meeting for the Veterans Dinner to be held on Nov. 11, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. The Legion is requesting that the Auxiliary furnish the desserts, and Dixie will be contacting members to donate desserts. The boys and girls who went to state will be speaking of their experiences at Boys? State and Girls? State. Their parents are invited to attend. The meal will start at 6 p.m.
It was reported that the Auxiliary had two members pass away during the past week, Marge McClure, and Pheonyx Sturm. Pheonyx was the daughter of Jamie and Robert Sturm and the granddaughter of Mike and Mary Sypherd. Sympathy messages were signed by all. Dixie Young made a motion to donate to each of their memorials, seconded by Carla McCandless and approved by all.
Sue reminded the group that it was time to order the poppies. The Auxiliary will be ordering 3,100 small ones and 100 large ones, and will share the supply with the Crawfordsville unit. She also noted that the reports are due. Sue will be ordering the guide and the Robert?s Rules books; if interested, contact Sue.
Members were reminded of upcoming events. Fall District Meeting will be in Mount Pleasant on Oct. 29, with registration beginning at 8 a.m.
The Veterans Service will be held at 11 a.m., Nov. 11, at Blair House in Washington; and the Veterans Dinner is scheduled for 6 p.m., Nov. 11, at the United Presbyterian Church in Washington. All veterans are invited to attend.
The next meeting will be Nov. 9, at the Washington County Ambulance Barn.
