Martha Washington Questers 1032 met on Oct. 28, at the home of Virginia Reighard, with nine members attending. The meeting began with reciting the Questers Invocation. Secretary Jane Fehr read the roll call, and members answered and told about trick-or-treating as a child. Members contributed $3 apiece for the snack boxes, to be exchanged later. Minutes were read and approved, as was the treasurer?s report.
President Virginia read some facts about the Questers International meeting. She said that in 2016, grants totaling $77,875 were contributed and 25 awards were given. At the International convention 603 Questers attended from 26 states as well as from two provinces in Canada. There were 310 attendees from Iowa. The next conference will be May 5-7, 2017, in St. Petersburg, Florida.
Virginia also shared some Questers facts: the founder of Questers was Jesse Barden in 1944 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where the national headquarters remains today; the organization has 11,000 members in 43 states and two provinces in Canada; historical preservation and restoration remain their goals; the Questers motto is ?It?s fun to search and a joy to find.?
Members voted to contribute to the state president?s project and to the national preservation and restoration projects. Next month?s meeting will be earlier because of Thanksgiving. It will be on Nov. 18 at the home of Vicki Ealy, with Mary Statler as co-hostess and Jane Fehr giving the program on Kellogg?s Corn Flakes.
Because Mary Statler could not attend and give her program on Alexander Hamilton, members instead shared what they did this summer. Some stayed home and just relaxed, but others took trips, such as Jane Fehr?s trip to Door County, Wisconsin, and Janet Peterson had stories about her three winning trips, which were interesting to hear about. Both Maurine and Virginia had camping stories to share, and others visited out of town. Pat Johnson welcomed a new arrival in her family, a grandson.
The afternoon was concluded with sharing the decorated snack boxes which the members had brought. Each was filled with a delectable snack that was very much enjoyed ? a great way to end the day.
