Post 29, American Legion met April 11 in regular session with Wayne Kaufman commanding. Finances and membership renewals were reported on by Adjutant Jim Peterson.
A new member by transfer is Dave Krantz.
The Legion Riders will sponsor a ride involving a scavenger hunt which will be a fundraiser for an 11-year-old girl who is battling cancer.
Fundraising chairman Lonny Milligan outlined upcoming events which members are involved in such as flower delivery for Mother?s Day, May 13, cruise night and the June 4 fly-in breakfast. He also reported on the recent Ding Darling event.
April 1917 was the beginning of WW I, which involved the United States, and much discussion was heard in that regard. This post 29 is also known as the Leon Beatty post in honor of the first county soldier to be killed in the war. Also mentioned was the first Iowan killed, who was Merle Hay of Des Moines.
Veterans of the area are invited to any of The Legion meetings held the second Tuesday of the month at the Blair house at 7 p.m.
