The Washington, Iowa Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met on Saturday, May 7, at the home of President Millie Youngquist with June Asper, Jennine Wolf and Linda Gonshorowski as co-hostesses for the May brunch.

The Washington, Iowa Branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) met on Saturday, May 7, at the home of President Millie Youngquist with June Asper, Jennine Wolf and Linda Gonshorowski as co-hostesses for the May brunch.
The group was pleased to have their 2016 scholarship recipient Jordan Stout and her mother, Julie Stout, in attendance. This is the 35th year for this local AAUW project. Jordan shared her future plans and said she will be a second-year student at Mt. Mercy College this fall.
Highlights of the business meeting included a report on the Little Free Library with the group reminded to continue to deliver books, particularly children?s books, to Virginia Bordwell. Treasurer Patty Roe encouraged members to pay their 2016-2017 dues. Additionally, the group was notified that their donation to help two girls attend Camp Invention, the summer STEM event for elementary students, had been made.
Julia Gamon explained that AAUW members will be hosting the U. of Illinois presenters for the MakerGirls STEM event on Monday and Tuesday nights, June 20 and 21. This free event of four sessions for 48 girls, ages 7-10, will be a fabulous learning opportunity involving the use of 3-D printers. Signup for this event is through the Washington Free Public Library.
It was reported that members had recently coordinated three career speakers for the WRAP (Washington Regional Alternative Program) students in the following fields: city employment and agricultural and day care opportunities. The final speaker was to be Bonnie Donnolly on May 16 on utility company opportunities.
In closing, the members suggested program ideas for 2016-2017 and voted to change their meeting date to the second Tuesday night of the month.
