The Wayland Lions Club held their August meeting at the Wayland Community Center. President Jim Hester called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Roth gave the Invocation before the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.

The Wayland Lions Club held their August meeting at the Wayland Community Center. President Jim Hester called the meeting to order at 6:30 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance. Roger Roth gave the Invocation before the meeting broke for a delicious meal catered by Alice Hochstetler.
At the resumption of the meeting, Lion Marianne Pattyson read the secretary minutes and Terry Kaufman gave treasurer?s report. Both reports were approved unanimously.
Lion Stan Meyer secured volunteers for the second Mississippi Valley Blood Drive from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug.18, at the Wayland Community Center.
The Wayland Lions reviewed, discussed an approved donations to the following causes at the August meeting: an Annual Scholarship for a WACO graduate, an annual scholarship for a graduating Leo member, LCIF Melvin Jones Award, Lions Clubs International Foundation, Leader Dog Program providing ?Seeing Eye Dogs,? Lions Eye Bank program, Camp Courageous and Wayland Youth Center.
It is important to note that the Wayland Lions Club is Wayland?s only service organization and the Lion members work very seriously to meet the service needs of the Wayland community as well as, American and International service needs.
Lion Carol Shumaker is coordinating the Annual Rose Sale. The proceeds from this charitable fund raiser will provide income to service various Wayland community requirements. There is a fee for the roses, which will be delivered Saturday, Sept. 17. This is a great way to support the community and make a special person very happy! Make someone?s day by calling a Wayland Lions Club member and order your dozen roses.
Lion Russ Yoder is looking into a much-needed day care center for the Wayland community, which will be discussed further at the Sept. 20 meeting.
Lion Chuck Brown was given endorsement to hire Ned Francis, musical entertainer, for Wayland Lions Club Christmas Party to be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at the Wayland Community Center.
Global Membership Coordinator Brian Pattyson discussed the following membership programs: letter to Leo graduates of WACO High School to promote establishing membership in new areas where they go to college or work by joining an existing Lions Club in that area or starting a Campus Lions Club at their college or university, Lions Clubs International District 9SE has asked all Lions Clubs to discuss holding a membership drive to gain new members to celebrate LCI Centennial in 2017. It will be 100 years that Lions Clubs have been servicing their communities around the world. Lions Clubs are now located in 210 countries, with almost 47,000 Lions Clubs and approaching 1.5 million members. There are 500 Campus Lions Clubs internationally, with 10,000 members. Iowa Wesleyan University in Mount Pleasant Iowa chartered their Campus Lions Club with 30 members April 18.
Brian informed the Wayland Lions Club Members that Lions Clubs International President Bob Corlew chose Iowa Wesleyan University to visit on his ?Meet and Greet Tour? from 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sept. 18, 2016. President Corlew is excited about visiting IWU Campus Lions Club and its 30 student members.
