Bev Crandall was hostess to Fleur-de-Lis Club members at 9 a.m. Thursday, May 25, at Main Street Donuts in Washington. Bev treated members to their choice of pastries and drink.
While enjoying the pastries, owner, Lynne Tauchen, between customers, told a little bit about the business she owns with her husband, John. Lynne came to the U.S. with her parents when she was 7 years old in 1959 from the Philippines. She and her husband have been involved in many businesses, real estate, imports, tennis bag business and catering. They presently own five stores with her goal of 10 stores. They opened for business in Washington in April. All their pastries are made from scratch every day using basically the same dough but are shaped and decorated differently at their first and main store in Ottumwa. They sell no day-old doughnuts. The process for doing their donuts/pastries is an involved manual process starting with the mixing, raising, baking, frying, filling and decorating starting at 5 p.m., and they need to be done by 2 a.m., so the product can be boxed and delivered to their stores in southeast Iowa. Then the cleaning process is done before the next day?s work. Sausage and biscuits and breakfast pizza are sometimes on the menu. They also have a variety of flavors for their cake doughnuts, chocolate, vanilla, red velvet, cherry, and the old-fashioned as well as their glazed doughnuts.
Bev Krotz, vicepresident, handed out the club program booklets for the coming year to members present.
A short business meeting was held conducted by President Nancy Kimmel. Roll call was answered and the secretary and treasurer reports were given by Linda Birney. There was no business to report and the meeting was adjourned.
Members enjoyed visiting with regard to Memorial Day and graduations.
The next meeting will be June 22, with Nancy Kimmel as hostess at 1:30 p.m.
