Post 29 American Legion met at its regular time with Wayne Kaufman commanding. Reports were heard from Adjutant Jim Peterson on finances and membership, and Lonny Milligan on fund-raising. Two new members were recognized, Joe Wise, a Gulf war veteran of both the Army and Navy, and Jack Genkinger, Navy Vietnam veteran. The post has purchased large quantities of stocking caps, gloves, and sweatshirts to be distributed at the VA hospital and other charities who are in need of winter clothing. Volunteers sorted items Tuesday, Nov 17, at the auction building on the fairgrounds.
The program was provided by Tara Pickens from the Kirkwood campus. Tara spoke of all the courses offered to some 700 students on the two year old campus. Several high school students are earning college credits prior to their graduation. She spoke of the many programs available to veterans in the area.
Plans were finalized for the Veterans day dinner held Nov. 11 at the Presbyterian Church.
Area veterans are invited to attend American Legion meetings held at the Blair house on the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m.
