Theresa Hora was hostess to Fleur-de-Lis Club members for their annual salad luncheon on Dec. 10, at 12:30 p.m.
Members brought a variety of salads and Theresa served a tasty casserole and ham. Table favors were painted snowmen, reindeer and Santa?s from baby food jars and each place setting had a Christmas cookie cutter with a napkin placed through it. Members enjoyed sitting around her kitchen table with Christmas music playing in the background. Lunch was finished with sweet treats and recipes shared.
Following the luncheon, Nancy Kimmel, conducted a short business meeting. Roll Call as answered with each member telling of their ?Favorite Christmas Candy They Make During the Holidays." Linda Birney gave the Secretary and Treasurer?s Reports. She reported that our Christmas donation was delivered along with canned goods to HACAP. The club was glad to welcome our two new members, Dorcas Jarrard and Lynda Jarrard.
Theresa Hora shared a short history on the Christmas Poinsettia. December 12 is National Poinsettia Day which is dictated by the founder of the Poinsettia?s death, Joel Poinsett. He was the first U.S. ambassador to Mexico and an amateur botanist who in 1825 first introduced the plant to the U.S. It was discovered in 1828 as a fever cure. The Aztecs used the poinsettias in many ways including cosmetics, dyes and to treat fevers. It grows as a tree and flourishes in southern Mexico. The botanical name means beautiful.
Before departing for home, members enjoyed a fun activity by decorating a Christmas tree picture by rolling dice. Dorcas Jarrard won the prize for completing her Christmas tree first.
The club will not meet during the months of January and February. The next meeting will be our husband?s/guest night out at 6:30 p.m. on March 24, 2016, at 6:30 p.m. with Kathy Ebert as hostess for the evening.
