Martha Washington Questers No. 1032 met April 28, at the home of Maurine Roberts, who was also the co-hostess.
President Virginia Reighard led us in the Questers Invocation.
It was reported that Gerry Schmidt who lives in Brownlee will remain a member of the group for the next year. All other members have paid their dues.
Virginia shared some ideas for Questers, such as dressing up in costume for meetings, celebrating the holidays, celebrating different countreies, noting historical events and other meeting ideas. It was suggested the members consider inviting Mike Zahs to do a program.
Four members attended the State Day in the Quad Cities. Janet, Linda, Vicki and Marilyn attended and reported to the speakers. The most popular one seemed to be the afternoon speaker on saving a county school called Forest Green No. 5. They learned a lot and thought the speaker was very enthusiastic.
The International Convention will be held May 5-7 in St. Petersburg, Florida. None of our members will be attending.
The sheet for next year?s hostess, co-hostess and program was passed around for everyone to sign up.
Virginia announced the May meeting date will be changed from May 26 to a week earlier on May 19.
The members voted on the June outing. Details will come later.
Virginia recommended a book with Martha Washington and her slave called ?Never Caught.? It sounded like it would be interesting to read.
Next month?s meeting will be May 19 at the home of Linda Newlon. Co-hostess will be Virgina Reighard.
The program was given by Mary Statler on Alexander Hamilton.
Mary is a history buff and had lots of interesting things to say about Hamilton. She talked about his strange early life where he was born on an island in the Altantic and was given up by his parents to be raised by his grandparents. He was a brilliant man who is known as the father of the treasury system. He also believed in education and libraries. He established a financial system for the U.S. that is still used today.
He died in a duel with Aaron Burr. The club members wondered how his life was made into a popular rap musical called ?Hamilton.?
The meeting ended with refreshments provided by Maurine.
