Seven members of Log Cabin Questers No. 455 met at the home of Nancy Schmidt Sept. 1. Members opened the meeting wih the Quester Invocation. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and accepted. Norma Stutzman gave the treasurer?s report. President Sheila Gerot highlighted items from the state president?s newsletter: state officer candidates are needed for first vice president and corresponding secretary and preservation and restoration grants are available. The Fall Fling will be held on Oct. 7 and 8 in Denison, which is the home of Donna Reed.
Sharon Hahn presented the program, ?Religious Buttions.? History can be traced through buttons and the symbols found on them, many of which have religious symbolism. Some of those symbols include: the butterfly, representing life, death, and resurrection; sheaves of wheat, representing eternal life offered in communion; grape vines and branches, signifying union with Christ, and the lamp, representing Christian knowledge or learning. Other symbols were crosses, fish, stars, the phoenix bird, snakes, anchors, arrows, angels, animals, lamp, and various animals. Sharon also noted several Bible verses that made reference to such symbols and their meaning.
Refreshments were served as the group enjoyed social time, discussing current community issues.
The next meeting will be Oct. 6 at the home of Norma Stutzman, with Karen Lyons presenting the program, ?Games People Play.?
