Five members of Martha Washington Questers 1032 went to Des Moines May 20-22, 2016, for the International Questers Convention, held at the Marriott Downtown Hotel. While there, they enjoyed a Friday tour of the Clive, Iowa, Depot and Country Store Museum, and also the Gold Star Military Museum at Camp Dodge that currently serves as the headquarters of the Iowa National Guard. On Saturday morning they served as hostesses in the Hospitality Room, then went to a huge Des Moines farmers market. Their Saturday afternoon tour was a home in the River Bend district by the Des Moines River. The house was built in 1896 by E.E. Temple, founder of the Bankers Life Insurance Company. The second home was a total surprise, as the outside had not yet been restored to its original beauty. Inside was a magnificent staircase with beautiful stained-glass windows. Every room was beautifully restored. The owner?s next project was the outside. Saturday evening the attendees were served a delicious dinner at Iowa?s 50th Anniversary Gala Annual banquet, where all of the tables were decorated by Iowa Quester groups, representing their names. Later, the Des Moines Gay Men?s Chorus entertained the group with songs.
