A regular meeting of Chapter J was held on Thursday, Sept. 1, at 7:55 p.m., at the home of Mary Chmelar with Mary and Lois Greiner serving as co-hostesses.
President Lynn Loula presided over the short business meeting.
Sara Bartlett shared that Marde McConnell is hosting a fun ?porch party? at her home on Sept. 10, at 10 a.m. She reminded the group that the next regular meeting is at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 6, at the home of Betty Eden with Jo Ross and Margaret Dunn as co-hostesses. The program ?Wild About Opportunities? will be presented by Jim Goff.
Prior to the business meeting, the group met at the Grace Hill Moravian Church for a very special and informative program presented by our Chapter J member Lois Greiner and Chapter MX member Lynda Miksch Jarrard. Lynda shared information about the history of the Moravians who originally lived in Eastern Europe and who came to ?The Americas,? serving as missionaries to the Native Americans. The Grace Hill Moravian Church was one of seven Moravian churches in Iowa. Lois shared memories of growing up in the church and Lynda told that she and her first husband, Jim Miksch, were married in the church. Grace Hill Moravian Church, now on the National Registry of Historical Place, was established in 1866 and the last service was in 1970. Currently there are annual ?homecoming? services the fourth Sunday of June.
