Two circles of United Presbyterian women met during November. Circle III met on Nov. 8 in the church lounge with six members present. Jane Fehr lit the Christ candle and led in prayer that included concern for the family of Marie Dare. Other concerns were for the health of Phyllis VanGerpen and Marilyn Johnston.
Pat Johnson gave the lesson by preparing a list of questions gleaned from the lesson. This led to very good participation from everyone. The Gospel of Luke is comprehensive in its account of the life of Jesus and His ministry. All of the participants enjoyed this approach to the lesson.
Jane Fehr gave the devotions. She spoke of a mission in Canfield, Ohio, that provides places for those in the mission work to stay. It can house 30 people. Members are to pray for the staff of this endeavor. Jane also spoke about Lydia, who was a hospitable business woman who shared her time, talent and treasure.
Deb Helmick led the Brownlee Hymn/Sing very successfully. All of the participants enjoyed it.
Ushers and greeters were assigned for the Thank Offering Sunday, Nov. 20. The Christmas Tea will be held at 1:30 p.m., Dec. 7, at the church. Circle III will furnish table decorations and refreshments.
The group dismissed after reading "My Daily Prayer."
Circle IV met on Nov. 9 at the Campbell Room of the U.P. Home. Esther Bordwell was the hostess to eight members. Joys and concerns were shared before Betty Beenblossom opened the meeting with prayer. Esther Bordwell shared an inspirational reading. Julia Gamon shared news from the Corresponding Missionary, Tom Johnson. Plans were made for the Thank Offering Service on Nov. 20, the Brownlee Birthday Party, the Brownlee Hymn/Sing on Dec. 6 and the Christmas Tea on Dec. 7. A special offering was taken for the Menaul School. Jane Cuddeback provided devotions for the meeting and Kay Hall led the study "According to Luke." For the Dec. 14 meeting members will bring Christmas treats and some Christmas Inspiration to share.
