Post 29 American Legion met in regular session with Wayne Kaufman commanding. A report was heard by Jim Peterson, Adjutant, on membership and finances. Guest was Bob Foxworthy, retired from the Air Force. Bob Kennedy reported on the recent Mid-Winter conference in Des Moines and read the certificate of appreciation to the post for its part of the wall repair at state headquarters. The spring district meeting will be held April 22 in Columbus Junction.
In lieu of a program, final plans were made for the presentation the group are sponsoring titled ?A Visit with Ding Darling,? which will take place March 26, a Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m., at the Washington Area Performing Arts and Events Center. A professional actor, Tom Milligan, will offer his interpretation of Mr. Darling in a 90-minute one-man show. The audience will learn of his experiences in politics, conservation, political cartooning, and of his great achievements. The program will be preceded by thee state-winning oratorical declamations by high school students. Proceeds will go towards assisting veterans and their families in the local area.
Commander Kaufman told of his trip to Washington, D.C., to witness the promotion of his son, Aaron to the rank of lieutenant colonel by the General of the Army. Aaron, is a West Point graduate.
