Two circles of Presbyterian Women met in May. Also the women held a spring salad luncheon open to all women of the church and to guests from other churches.
Circle III met the morning of May 10 in the church lounge. They shared joys and concerns and prayed together. Jane Fehr taught Lesson 8 on passion and hospitality as studied in the verses in John: 4 and Acts: 3. Members examined the story of Jesus meeting the Samaritan woman by the well. Jesus showed by his example that everyone should be accepting of people and be an evangelist of His word.
Deb Helmick gave devotions. She shared information about a church in California that served home grown vegetables to the needy. She asked members to pray for women in prisons.
Phyllis VanGerpen reported on the circle?s missionaries, the Callisons. They may be in the Washington area this summer and might agree to talk to the Presbytery. Jane led exercises and Bernice provided some humor.
Jane led the business meeting. She thanked all who helped at the Spring Workshop, which was attended by more than 85 people from all over eastern Iowa. She also thanked those who helped serve at the Spring Salad Luncheon. Future dates are the birthday party for Brownlee Health Center on May 18 and the June 1 gathering for coffee and installation of officers.
Circle III?s next meeting will be at Jane Fehr?s house. She will serve coffee and rolls and all will share in teaching Lesson 9.
Eleven members of Circle IV met on May 11 in the Campbell Room of the U.P. Home hosted by Janice Twinam. Prior to the business meeting members shared memories of Jeanette Miksch, who recently passed away. Kay Hall announced the birth of a new great-granddaughter, Victoria Grace. Mildred Houseal announced she had attended a granddaughter?s wedding.
Davida Nicholson invited members to her 70th anniversary celebration on May 28 from 2 ? 3:30 p.m. in the U.P. Home Main Dining Room. Betty Beenblossom opened the meeting with prayer. Julia Gamon read a newsletter from Corresponding Missionary Tom Johnson. The monthly Mission Offering was collected for Hillcrest Family Services. Next month?s special offering will be for HACAP. Betty thanked all who had helped with the recent Brownlee Birthday Party, Hymn Sing and the PW Workshop and Spring Luncheon. A sign-up sheet was circulated for next year?s programs. These upcoming dates were announced: June 1, 2016, will be the PW Annual Gathering; the Synod Gathering will be June 15-18 in Sioux Falls; Oct. 1 will be the Presbytery PW Fall Gathering in Bettendorf. Julia Gamon gave devotions on Ethiopia. Esther Bordwell led the study on The Hospitality of Living Water. The next meeting will be June 8 with Jane Cuddeback as hostess.
