Two circles of United Presbyterian Women met during March. Circle III met at the church on March 14. There were three in attendance. Marilyn Johnston led the meeting by lighting the Christ candle and praying.
Phyllis VanGerpen gave the lesson on Hebrews. She prefaced the lesson by asking the question, ?Who do you say the Hebrews were??
Hebrews is a book that is more like a sermon, pointing out clearly the divinity and humanity of Jesus. Hebrews points to the persecution the Hebrews endured. Phyllis pointed out that Christians today in many parts of the world are enduring the same persecution.
The book of Hebrews points to the greatness of Jesus. He is greater than Moses and the Old Testament prophets. He is God?s son and made the ultimate sacrifice. Christians are challenged to stand firm in their faith.
Betty Colby was responsible for devotions. Exodus 15:20-21 spoke of Miriam as a brave and courageous leader. Her leadership directed people to the Lord. Betty also read the poem, ?One Solitary Life.?
Phyllis gave the missionary report by handing out leaflets of the Callisons? ministry.
Marilyn dismissed the group with prayer.
Circle IV of the United Presbyterian Women met in the Campbell Room of the U.P. Home on Wednesday, March 8, at 9:15 a.m. Nine members were joined by Kitch Shatzer.
Leader Betty Beenblossom opened the meeting with prayer which included joys and concerns of the members. Betty thanked Kay Hall for acting as hostess and Esther Bordwell for presenting the study.
The special Mission Offering was collected for Camp Wyoming. April?s Mission Offering will be a collection of paper products for Lending Hands Adult Daycare. Julia Gamon reported on corresponding missionary Tom Johnson from Niger. Circle members will help with the Brownlee birthday party on March 15 and the Brownlee Hymn Sing on April 4. The PW Spring Luncheon will be on May 3 and the PW Spring Workshop will be in Winfield on April 29. Circle IV will meet next month on April 12 with Jane Cuddeback as hostess. Julia Gamon will have the study and Wilma Wright will have the devotions.
