Washington County Historical Society held its annual meeting at 6 p.m., April 25, at Altenhofen Barn. Thirty-five people attended, and Mary Levy served as mistress of ceremonies.
Guest speakers were Erma and Dennis Altenhofen, who told about designing and building the peg barn. It was finished in 2004, and is held together with 480 pegs which Dennis had made. It is made with wood from Iowa and Wisconsin. It is used for many reunions, weddings and receptions.
During the business meeting preceding the program, four board members were re-elected for three-year terms: JoAnn Breen, Mike Kramme, Carly Robison, and Terry O?Neill. Ed Griggs was awarded the 2016 Volunteer of the Year Award for work he did in Conger House.
