Catholic Daughters of the Americas met in the Youth Room at St. James on April 13 for their regular meeting.
Doni Townsend started the evening with a presentation on Cradle of Hope out of Mt. Pleasant. She told of their mission to help girls all the way through pregnancy and early childhood. Their mission is to help young mothers be the best they can be. They also have a program for young fathers helping them to learn that they have great responsibility fathering a child and that they should be a part of that child's life.
They have Mommy Money programs as well as Learn to Earn. They earn money to purchase items needed for their child. They are now opening a center at ONEighty in Washington and are here on Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Regent Janice Carr conducted the business meeting. Pat Fritz gave the treasurer's report and Phyllis Hofer reported on the weighted blanket making day at church. Twenty-nine 10-pound blankets were made. These seem to be the most needed size.
May Day basket committee Melva Mineart and Joyce Marie brought baskets that were filled and will be distributed May 1.
The Domestic Abuse collection will be held in May this year. The Senior Breakfast will this year be a senior reception and will be held on May 21 following the 5:30 Mass. Anne Goebel will chair this event, and sign-up sheets will be at our next meeting. Also in May the nomination committee will present a slate of officers for the next two years.
Refreshment committee of Margaret Marie, Loretta Mellinger, Chris Peiffer, and Dorothy Weber served delicious desserts and visiting followed.
