Log Cabin Questers # 455 is celebrating its 45th anniversary, having been chartered in July 1970.
The Log Cabin, from which the Washington County Chapter chose its name, was built in 1840 by Alexander Young. Originally standing four miles from the town of Washington, it served as a home, church, school, and meeting place for neighboring pioneers. By 1912, there were only two members of the Young family left. They gave the cabin as a memorial to all pioneers. Washington?s Sunset Park was chosen as the new site, because the Young family once owned the land. The cabin was torn down piece by piece for authentic restoration. The cabin was presented to the Washington chapter of the DAR, who still manages restoration of the cabin today.
Sharon Hahn hosted an anniversary celebration, held at the former home of her mother, Ruth Owen, who was one of 14 charter members. Current members who were also charter members in 1970 are Dorothy Koehler and Beverly Bartmann .
Seven members toured the home. They reviewed historical memories and pictures, and enjoyed cake and homemade ice cream. Guests joining the group were Sharon?s daughter, Paula, and family, who were visiting from Texas; and son, Lonnie and family of Washington, Iowa.
Members were reminded of the district meeting, ?Fall Fling,? being held in Story City on Oct. 17. The next meeting will be held on Sept. 3; Sheila Gerot will notify members as to the time and place.
