The Washington Chapter DAR met on Monday, Oct. 5, 1:30 p.m. at Halcyon House in Washington.
Regent Denise Preston called the meeting to order. Julie Mangold, chaplain, led the ritual and closed with prayer.
The DAR chapter may present a Good Citizen award to a qualifying high school senior each year. It was decided to include high school students in Washington County as possible recepients of this award. A committee for this project will be selected at a later date.
The members have spent many hours devoted to the sorting, cleaning, repair tagging and arranging of donated vintage and pre-owned jewelry that will be presented for sale. The sale is open to the public and will be held on Friday, Oct. 23, 4 to 7 p.m. and Saturday, Oct. 24, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Washington Public Library.
Proceeds from the sale will be used for general repairs and upkeep of the Alexander Young cabin in Sunset Park. Members scheduled themselves for setting up the sale items and working the days of the sale.
The meeting was closed in due form. Julie Mangold presented the program titled ?Dear Mother and All." She read several letters that were written by her father, a bombardier on B-29s in the Pacific Theater during WWII. She had many intersting stories to share with photos and other personal items that belonged to her father.
The date of the next meeting will be Monday, Nov. 2, at noon for a potluck luncheon and meeting. Cheyenne Cuddeback Miller will present the program entitled, ?Normandy."
The Washington Chapter of DAR welcomes new members. Anyone interested should contact Julie Mangold at 319-698-2033 or any of the other members.
