Four United Presbyterian women ? Janice Twinam, Betty Beenblossom, Betty Colby and June Asper ? attended the annual Spring Workshop hosted by the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield, Saturday, April 29. The theme for the day was ?A Cloud of Witnesses,? with the keynote speaker being Mary Ann Pedde on the topic of domestic violence advocate. The workshops offered that day were ?The Horizons Bible Study Preview,? presented by Lisa Ross-Thedens, and ?Mission: Mobility? by Rick Fulton. Rick told about wheelchairs? being distributed in Guatemala and how they are much-needed to improve the mobility of people there.
Circle 4 was hostess to the United Presbyterian Women?s annual salad luncheon, May 3 at the church. There were 47 members and guests present. The tables were beautifully decorated, using a patriotic theme. Betty Colby gave opening devotions pertaining to mothers, the Christ candle was lit, and a prayer was offered by June Asper before an array of delicious salads was enjoyed by all. Circle 3 contacted the entertainment for the day, which was presented by past Rosie the Riveter Louise Unkrich of Swedesburg and her daughter Tish Woepking, telling about the part women played on the home front during World War II. Mary Statler also told of some of her experiences during that time period. The meeting was closed with a unison prayer, and the Christ candle was extinguished.
Circle 4 met in the Campbell Room at the United Presbyterian Home, Wednesday, May 10, at 9:15 a.m. Janice Twinam was hostess to seven members, and her delicious refreshments were enjoyed while members shared their joys and concerns. Betty Beenblossom opened the meeting with prayer, then asked for the minutes and the treasurer?s report. Reports were given from the coordinating team meeting, the spring workshop in Winfield, and the May Salad Luncheon. The mission project for the month was Choices, located here in Washington. Choices is a center for hope, opportunity, inspiration and change in an environment of support. It is a very worthwhile mission. The Christ candle was lit, and Kay Hall gave devotions pertaining to Mothers of the Bible and asked each member to share her mother?s name. Kay also did a reading from the Least Coin book. Wilma Wright presented the interesting study titled ?Abrahamic Faiths.? After the closing prayer in unison, the Christ candle was extinguished
In June, Circle 3 will be guests of Circle 4, at which time the two circles will combine membership and become one. The new circle will have a new name, ?PW Circle.?
