Tuesday Coffee Club met at 9 a.m., Dec. 20, for breakfast at The Frontier Restaurant. Mary Jane Shaffer was the hostess to the ten members present.
Before and after a bountiful breakfast much visiting and sharing was enjoyed. Christmas plans with members? families were among the main topics with some traveling and some having had their family gatherings this last weekend. Food discussion and menu plans always bring new ideas for members to share and try out in their own kitchens. A familiar story was mentioned by some as to having failures with candy making along with non failures. Doing this type of cooking once yearly seems to sometimes come up with not the best of results which says that maybe people should not be making candy anyway. That does not seem to be listed on our diet plan. Judy shared with us this little blip she found when going through one of her old recipe boxes. ? Hey diddle diddle, I?m watching my middle and hoping to whittle it soon. But eating?s such fun, I may not get it done till my dish runs away with my spoon.? Food for thought as we enjoy the blessing of family, food and the true meaning of Christmas. Judy is one special candy-and cookie-maker and has family out of state that she mails goodies to each Christmas. The grandchildren watch for the mail to arrive when December rolls around because who makes better cookies than special grandmas?
Some shared stories about their pretty jewelry they were sporting. Family heirlooms and gifts of jewelry they have received over the years make for fond memories. One member shared that she had sorted out some jewelry including her wedding pearl necklace and earrings, her and her husband?s class rings along with other family pieces from her great-grandmother and shared them with grandchildren to keep and enjoy.
Some members were absent due to the snow in the driveways and some winter colds which seem to be going around.
The next meeting will not be until March 7, 2017, with Sharon Niffenegger being hostess. Time and place will be announced at a later date.
