The Garden Department of the Fortnightly Club met at 6:30 p.m., Oct. 19, at the home of Jan Boyd. Roll call was ?Fall chores we have done so far.? Seven members were present.

The 120th Anniversary Luncheon will be Nov. 16, at noon. It will be held in the Halcyon House game room. Food will be prepared by the Bistro. The program will be ?Fortnightly Memories.? Ellen Krueger and Linda Wenger will be honoring 50- , 40- and 30-year members. Tickets were sold, and Garden Department had six members who will be attending the luncheon.
October will be the last meeting until Feb. 21, 2017, at Myrna Mittler?s home. The program is to be announced.
Jan Boyd gave the program for the evening. She read from a book named ?Everything I Know I Learned in My Garden? (life?s lessons in my own backyard) by Emilie Barnes. Some little quotes from the book are: ?Garden time should be every day, but don?t try to do it all in one day?; ?life is enduring ? trust it?; ?there are no fatal mistakes, you can always try again?; life is indescribably beautiful ? enjoy it and say ?thank you?; ?gardeners are open-hearted ?givers??; ?growth takes time. Be patient and while you are waiting, pull a weed?; ?pruning is ?Tough Love??; ?a walk through your garden brings serenity, peace and comfort?; grow what you love ? your love will keep it growing?; ?gardening is the closest one can come to being next to the creator!?
These were awesome things to ponder.
The meeting was closed, and refreshments were served.
