Seven Fleur-de-Lis Club members met at 9 a.m. on Thursday, May 26, at the Golden Delight Bakery north of Kalona, at 2289 Johnson-Washington Road. This business is owned by Nathan and Eunice Miller. They outgrew their original space and after remodeling and raising up a portion of the building, reopened in March of this year. They carry an expanded line of wind chimes, clocks, outdoor furniture, books, baked items of doughnuts, pies, bread, cookies, rolls and much more and other gift items, to name a few.
The group was given a tour through the bakery and members saw the different machines they use in their baking of pies, rolls and the frying of doughnuts, etc. and the different work stations for mixing, pastry rolling out, bread slicing, to name a few. Air and gas power their building. While members were there, the bakery was getting ready for the Thursday Farmer?s Market in Washington, where they sell their items. There are approximately 20 full-time/part-time employees. Saturday is one of their busiest days and one of the favorites is Caramel pecan rolls. They are open Monday through Saturday 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Following the tour, members were treated to pastries of choice provided by the hostess, Bev Krotz. Following refreshments and visiting, a short business meeting was conducted by president Nancy Kimmel. Roll call was answered with members telling of their upcoming summer plans. The secretary?s and treasurer?s reports were given by Linda Birney. A bill was presented and paid and several members paid dues.
Program booklets were passed out for the coming year by vice president Bev Krotz. It was decided to also make a list of all email and cell phone numbers to give to members.
The next meeting will be June 23, at 1:30 p.m. with Bev Crandall as hostess.
